How to restrict access to reports in Power BI and Project Online?

Project Online allows the administrator to configure various environmental constraints, either from access or from viewing.

It is possible, for example, to restrict users linked to a certain area in the organization only see projects related to this same area.

This type of restriction has at least two benefits:

1. Makes the usability of the tool more accurate, as the user has less unnecessary information to deal with.
2. It keeps restricting access information to projects from other areas by users who should not have it.

However, in the reports created in Power BI from Project Online, these restrictions are lost, leaving all the information exposed to anyone who has access to the dashboard.

The good news is that with the line-level security feature (RLS), you can insert the restrictions applied to Project Online for Power BI.

Restricting Menu access with a MLPro solution

Depending on the organization's need, MLPro has developed a solution in which it is possible to insert a direct restriction into the Project Online menu, so that users will not even have access to a particular link.

Ex.: On the Project Online homepage, it is necessary that only directors have access to Power BI. All other users would not see this information, regardless of the position.

For this case, we would create two groups with distinct permissions, and the views would be as follows:

Note that in Vision 2, employees don't even know the existence of Power BI. Unlike the first alternative in which the user has access to the report with restrictions of what he can view, in this solution users do not even know of the existence of these reports.

This permission can be used for any other items within the Menu.
