MLPro | End of SharePoint 2010 WorkFlow Support

Microsoft announced that as of the day 1 November 2020 will end support service for the SharePoint 2010 workflow, at SharePoint Online.

Below we have more information about Microsoft's plan and deadlines for the closure of this activity.

In addition, we have some clarifications about doubts regarding the end of this support.

Time limits and Recommendations

According to Microsoft information, since the day 1 August 2020 the workflow of the SharePoint has already been removed for the Tenants that had been created recently, and from 1 November 2020 the ability to run or create workflows for existing Tenants will be removed.

To maintain connectivity and functionality of the SharePoint 2010 workflows that are already in use by the company, Microsoft recommends migration to Power Automate so that there is no impact on any business process that uses the workflow.

Power Automate was developed by Microsoft to connect all Microsoft 365 services and also to enable the creation of custom workflows for your company.

How to check the workflow version?

To verify whether your company uses the SharePoint 2010 workflow, or even to plan migration to Power Automate, Microsoft recommends using a so-called tool SharePoint Modernization Scanner (SharePoint Modernization Scanner) to verify the version of the workflows used in Tenant. This tool will generate a report of the workflows used in SharePoint allowing analysis of the following data:

Verification of the SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 “legacy” workflows;

Analysis of websites and lists using workflows.

Analysis and score of Power Automate.

This analysis aims to indicate whether the workflows that have been detected can be successfully updated to Power Automate Workflow;

With the use of site information and workflow report, Tenant administrators can communicate to users, develop a migration plan to have minimal impact or interruption in business processes.

And how does the SharePoint 2013 Workflow support look?

For workflows of SharePoint 2013, Microsoft support will be maintained, but without prioritization in care. In this case, even with Microsoft support, it is recommended that migration to Power Automate is also done. If the company is interested in switching to a solution other than Power Automate, Microsoft allows, provided the solution is supported and is from the Microsoft 365 (Microsoft 365 Business Apps Partner Program) business application partners program.

SharePoint 2013 workflows will be disabled by default for new Tenants to from November 2020.

Microsoft will provide a PowerShell script to enable companies to activate workflow based on SharePoint 2013.

And how do Power Automate licenses stand?

New licenses will not be required, as all Microsoft 365 licenses already include the use of Power Platform for customization and use of Microsoft 365 applications including Power Automate and Power Apps.

And how does the workflow support for SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Server 2013?

The workflows based on SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Server 2013 will continue to have Microsoft support for SharePoint On premiere 2016 and SharePoint Server 2019 until 2026.

There will be some change for SharePoint Designer 2013?

The creation of SharePoint 2010 workflows with SharePoint Online using SharePoint Designer 2013 will be disabled for any Tenant from November 2020. SharePoint Designer 2013 will work with SharePoint Server 2019 up to the rest of the company's support cycle up to 2026. After this date the SharePoint Designer 2013 will no longer have Microsoft support.
