Project for the Web: New Task History feature

Easily manage tasks and projects from day to day, get to know the new task history for Project for the Web!

The feature helps owners and task resources to keep up-to-date on their tasks and quickly identify recent progress made or changes that affected the agenda.

Task history is available to all users in Project for the Web who have a license Project Plan 3 or higher.

How to Use Microsoft Project Task History Resource

  1. Open a project in Project for the Web itself or in a Project tab in Microsoft Teams. Note: In the examples below, we will show by Microsoft Teams, but the steps are the same.

    Select a task and click “Open Details”. It can be accessed by clicking on the job details in task grid or by clicking on a task card in the view of tableau.

  2. In the corner of the task details, there is a new task history icon. Click on it to open the change panel.

Details of registered actions

All changes a user makes to a task are recorded in the history of tasks. For each edition, details are shown as who made the change, when he made it, which property was changed, the previous value and the new value.

The changes recorded include editions such as:

  • Add or remove tags;
  • change the duration or effort;
  • editing checklists;
  • Add or remove attachments;
  • Editions in any custom column.

Changes in predecessors

  • Changes made in predecessors that affect the current task also appear in the history.
  • Ex.: Task 1 is predecessor of task 2. If the completion date of Task 1 is changed, the change will be visible in the history of Task 2.

    Task Chat

    For projects that have been fixed on Teams channels, the bottom of the task detail panel includes a task talk button.

    • Click “Task Chat” to open the chat panel;

    • Chats in this panel automatically include a link to the task to help everyone quickly access a shared context.

    • The History Panel displays changes made by all users. But only users with Plan 3 license can view them.
    • History panel is not available in Planner.
    • It can be found in Power BI reports. Learn more Here..
    • Editions using Project Schedule API do not appear in the history.
    • Task edits using Power Apps forms do not appear in the task history.
